Metso and copper come together in Russia

Metso has won an approx. €200 million contract to supply minerals processing equipment and services to Russia’s third-largest copper producer, ZAO Russian Copper Company (RMK), in the Chelyabinskya region of South-West Russia.

Metso will supply a primary gyratory crusher, three cone crushers, two semi-autogenous grinding mills, three screens, and three ball mills for RMK’s new Mikheevsky GOK copper concentrator. The primary gyratory crusher will be able to handle 4,000 t/h of input and the two comminution lines will have a design capacity of 1,412 t/h. On-site supervisory services will cover installation and commissioning work, together with on-site training for RMK personnel.

The redesigned Spider, one-piece bottom shell, and new rim liner retention system of Metso’s SUPERIOR® 60-110E primary gyratory crusher results in lower stress levels, higher reliability, and enhanced overall performance. Photo courtesy of Metso.
The Mikheevsky project is a greenfield initiative and the planned start-up is scheduled for the third quarter of 2013. Copper production there is expected to total 18 million t/a.

The service contract will involve a team of more than 130 Metso on-site personnel and will see Metso provide maintenance, planning, and operational assistance, process and product support services, together with wear and spare parts and components for the site’s comminution circuit. Following a two-year planning phase, Metso will maintain and assist in the operation of the comminution circuit for six and a half years on a cost-per-tonne basis.
